My Interview with Author Samantha A. Cole

When did you first realize you wanted to become a Writer/author?

I’ve always been a big reader, but after a car accident that ended my career as a police officer, I needed one neck and four knee surgeries. While recovering from one of them in 2011, I had a few stories floating around my head and I decided to put them down on paper. It was a few more years before I learned all the ins and outs of writing and publishing a book, and the rest is history.

Where do you get your ideas for your book?

I can get them from anywhere—a TV show, a real-life incident I see or hear on the news, etc—but I also use my experience as a paramedic and police officer to develop ideas.

What kind of things do you enjoy when not writing?

Reading lol. I’m a history buff, so I enjoy going to places and learning more about them or going to museums and stuff.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

So far, I have 15 novels/novellas self-published. While I love them all, I’ll always have a soft spot for Topping the Alpha. One of the main characters, Jake Donovan, was so much more complex than I’d ever expected, and I fell in love with him. Too bad he’s a gay fictional character lol.

Do you have any suggestions to help others who have a passion for writing? Don’t give up! Ask questions from more experienced authors and learn to use constructive criticism to make your stories even better.

What do you think makes a great story?

Fully developed characters, a well-thought out plot, and knowing when to end the story, whether it’s to be a novella or a full-length novel. As a reader, I can tell when an author has thrown in unnecessary fillers to a story just to get a higher word count.

Which Writer/Authors inspire you?

So many! And in no particular order – Lexi Blake, Cherise Sinclair, Jerrie Alexander, Kennedy Layne, Angel Payne, Cristin Harber, Vince Flynn, Heather Graham, J.A. Jance, Suzanne Brockmann, and so many more—I could have a full page just listing my favorite authors.

What are you working on at the moment?(optional) The prequel to the Trident Security spinoff series, the Omega Team. Mountain of Evil is their final training mission before being released on their own. While it’s mostly suspense while getting to know the team, there are still some steamy scenes to get lost in.

What genre are your books?

What drew you to the genre you write?

It’s the same genre I love to read. I like an even mix of suspense, romance, and sex. Too much of one and not enough of the others can bore me.

Which Actor/Actress would you like to see portraying the lead character from your most recent book?(any book you like)

My latest book is a ménage, Option Number Three.

Do you write full-time or part-time?

What is the hardest thing about writing?

Getting distracted by the internet lol.

Any tips on how to get through the dreaded Writer’s block?

I don’t get it often, but when I do, I take my dogs out for a long walk and run the last scenes I wrote in my head like a movie. Usually by the time we get back home, I’ve figured out where the book is going next.

Do you read much, and if so who are your favorite Authors or genres?

See question 7 lol . . .I’m a big fan of those who have come before me and inspired me. I’d also like to add some new authors I’ve met since I’ve published my first book. Catrina Courtenay and JB Havens have not only become my friends, but they’ve pushed me out of my reading comfort zone. I’ve never been a big fan of first person point of view. But they are both talented enough that I found myself forgetting that I’m not a fan of 1st POV while reading their books.

Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?

Not that I can think of, other than thanks for having me!

How can Readers discovery more about you and your work?(please provide proper links)
